Subject Description

Hepatitis C

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify patients who are candidates for testing for Hepatitis C virus according to New York Public Health Law 2171, and understand the reason for the increased vigilance related to this health condition.
  2. Review the goals of HCV treatment and understand the parameters utilized in monitoring of treatment response for HCV therapy.
  3. Critically evaluate emerging data on novel and investigational agents for hepatitis C and the likely impact of this evolving literature on future management strategies
  4. Assess individual treatment naïve and treatment experienced patients to evaluate their candidacy for therapy with novel and future HCV therapies
  5. Provide optimum and appropriate counseling for patients and their families related to how these medications should be administered, the management of adverse events and drug interactions, as part of the treatment team
  6. Compare costs vs. benefits of HCV therapy when advising patients, colleagues, and financial stakeholders.
